United Kansas Conference Selected as New League Name

On Friday afternoon, August 4, high school principals and athletics and activities directors from six area schools (Basehor-Linwood, De Soto, Lansing, Leavenworth, Shawnee Heights, and Turner voted unanimously on a name for their newly formed league - United Kansas Conference (UKC). The naming process began with an open-ended invitation from each school's community to provide league name suggestions electronically through a web link. Over 400 submissions were received throughout the month of July.

After duplicative suggestions were deleted, the new league's building principals and AD's reviewed potential names and submitted a final list of 16 suggestions to a group of student representatives. Two to three students from each participating school were invited to a league meeting at Lansing High School to provide their feedback. After approximately one hour, the students presented their final suggestion to the administrative group. Student input was highly critical to this process, and the naming of the league helps to pave the way for future planning in advance of when interscholastic competition will begin in August 2018.

Help Us Name The New League

Our school has agreed to join five other schools to form a new KSHSAA league for athletics and activities, beginning August 2018. The new, yet to be named, league includes: Basehor-Linwood High School; De Soto High School; Lansing High School; Leavenworth High School; Shawnee Heights High School; and Turner High School.

We are actively taking suggestions for what the new league should be named throughout the month of July. Student representatives from each of the six schools will meet in early August to review the names suggested and provide a final list of recommendations for consideration and approval by the schools' Athletics/Activities Directors & Principals.

You can learn more and share your ideas by clicking "Help Us Name The New League" above no later than Monday, July 31.
